Arriva Sverige migrated to AWS to improve the uptime, stability and scalability of its core Windows applications

Arriva migrated hundreds of Windows servers to AWS, including business critical large SQL and Oracle databases with the help of Euvic, AWS partner.

Arriva was running its infrastructure in a co-location site in Denmark supporting over 3900 employees and 170 Million customers every year. The on-premises solution was not stable and flexible enough to meet the business and customer’s needs.

Arriva chose AWS over Azure and other providers because of the breath of services, security, support for developers, and the possibility to leverage existing investments by bringing existing Microsoft licenses to AWS.

Euvic – Arriva’s IT-partner – managed the migration in 700 hours. Euvic analyzed existing applications and made them cloud-ready without changing significantly the architecture of the core infrastructure, guaranteeing tangible benefits to Arriva early-on.

Euvic migrated several SQL & Oracle databases to AWS Relational Database Services (RDS) to take advantage of the ease of use of managed services. Moreover, Euvic retired the Citrix environment of Arriva by using AWS Appstream 2.0 and AWS WorkSpaces. This increased the scalability of the applications and increased the cost performance by 25%.

Migrating the environment to AWS was an easy decision given the breath of service and stability of the AWS platform. The results were as expected and after the migration we have created a lot of new services which would have been impossible to create on such a short time on the old, hosted platform.
