Volk Optical, a leading manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses, diagnostic imaging and surgical products, has been working with us in the field of Optometry for several years. One of our key projects completed for the client was the Red Dot Design Award-winning VistaView mobile application.
VistaView is a highly compact and affordable retinal camera that makes it easy to take high-quality retinal images. The integration of Volk optics with the simplicity, portability, and affordability of smartphone technology provides a full workflow solution, allowing any user to own a high-quality portable mydriatic retinal camera.
Project goal
Volk’s core focus encompasses lens manufacturing, device design and creation. In order to put concept to fruition, Volk needed specialists to create a mobile application solution for Android devices that would enable remote eye examinations with the unmatched quality they provide in exam rooms. The software solution required using a special case with a built-in set of lenses. The solution needed to make it as simple and intuitive as possible to perform eye examinations anywhere and utilize the imaging for remote diagnosis. The client provided a prototype device, domain knowledge, experts and UX design.
Solution delivered
TheGoodPeople team managed to develop a mobile application for the Motorola G6 smartphone. The application performs all the processes in an optimization study, from taking the lens off to sending the images to the doctor for analysis and diagnosis. What’s more, the provided solution enables the creation of a patient directory and storage of data on several examinations of a given patient – along with retinal images, realized using a dedicated lens connection. VistaView also features voice-activated capture, which is excellent for situations where the user needs additional assistance, such as imaging in intensive care units.
The application streamlines work with patients and data, saving time and allowing the immediate generation of reports enhanced with notes and retinal images of specific patients. Moreover, the ability to export DICOM images facilitates billing and ensures the continuity of consultations.
