Student internships are not only an obligatory part of the curriculum. They are also a great opportunity for development. In the future careers of young students, they often play the first fiddle, and if used properly, they will have a lot to offer them. What role does Euvic play in educating young talent?
The role of internships in education
Student internships allow students to broaden their knowledge of practical issues, get to know the business environment, learn about the specifics of the labour market, and last but not least – gain a competitive advantage on it. It is one of the most important activities undertaken by students, having a real impact on their later professional life.
Student internships allow students to broaden their knowledge and skills. That is why the internships should be treated as an integral, valuable part of the curriculum. As numerous studies have shown, employers who employ graduates point out the lack of completed internships or apprenticeships as one of the main and greatest problems.
Pros of internships
The internship allows students to make sure that their chosen course of study is the right one and to see what the future work environment will look like. It is the first step on the way to gaining professional experience. That is why it is so important to choose the right place of their completion.
What can students count on during internships and what are their main advantages?
- Learning to work in a team and cooperate with other people – acquiring the ability to adjust themselves to others and prioritise tasks.
- Immersion in the business environment – getting to know the expectations of a potential employer, understanding the requirements and characteristics of the industry, establishing valuable business contacts.
- Putting theory into practice – practical use of knowledge and learning new competences useful in working life.
- Getting to know one’s strengths and weaknesses – confronting one’s skills with market expectations, the possibility of locating areas that are still worth working on, finding an ideal workplace (both in terms of the size of the company and its atmosphere).
Euvic as a place that nurtures young talent
At Euvic, we not only constantly expand our knowledge, but also try to share this knowledge with others. That is why the academic community is particularly important to us. We try to create a place where theory meets practice and young IT enthusiasts can learn from the best.
For more than 10 years we have been organizing yearly internships at our premises, which are very popular among students. Every year we receive about 300 applications, from which we select and accept between 60 and even 80 people for internships. The vast majority of them receive from us an offer of long-term cooperation. Apart from internships, we are also actively involved in collaboration with universities and secondary schools and regularly invite people to take part in Chillout Hackhatons that w organize.
All our activities are aimed at supporting the development of young talents and establishing relationships that will turn into cooperation in the future. We want to show young people that work and passion can go hand in hand and that they have a real impact on their career path.
Hacktyki, or in other words internships 2020
More and more employers decided to organize internships every year. We say “decided” because this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this has changed dramatically. Business people had to think of other issues, crucial for their survival, and interns were unexpectedly deprived of the opportunity to complete internships required by their universities. We were wondering what we could do to support students in this difficult time and still guarantee their development. This is how the idea of the event called Hacktyki was born.
„We organize both internships and Hackathons, so why not combine them? We decided to take a risk and create something like a month-long Hackhaton, especially for this year’s students. This an initiative that we are implementing for the first time, completely spontaneously. Each of us has a normal, 8-hour working day, so the project is carried out after hours. Nevertheless, we didn’t have to specifically encourage anyone to participate in it. Euvic is created by the good people – people who care and who always give more than 100%. It is thanks to them that we can take on new, unusual challenges”
Grzegorz Bohosiewicz, the initiator of Hacktyki 2020.
The organization of Hacktyki is quite an effort for us. 18 mentors, 7 theme paths, 160 hours of practice. A whole lot of energy and commitment. All this to give young people space to develop. Our mentors will support the participants at every stage of the Hacktyki program – guiding them, giving advice, but how much the trainees will get out of this will be entirely up to them. Hacktyki is an event organized for those who want to develop, and the interns take their work seriously as if it was a permanent job. It is a kind of a fishing rod that can be used wisely and well, and we hope that this is how our trainees will treat it.
